Getting a Library Card
You can ask for a library card application at the library's front desk, or download one by clicking here.
Library cards are FREE. Picture ID AND proof of current address are required for a card to be issued. Accepted forms of proof of current address include: a bill, a lease, or an insurance card with current address, and not more than three months old. Children under 16 must be accompanied by a parent with ID and proof of address to get a card. There is a $1 replacement fee for a lost card. At the time of registstration, family members cards will be checked for fines. Family is defined as anyone living at the same address. If there are outstanding fines over $10 within the family, we will not issue a library card to another member until these fines are paid.
Picture ID AND proof of current address must be shown at the time of registration. Any of the following are acceptable:
- drivers license
- utility bill
- mortgage papers/lease
- state identification card
A valid library card is required for checkout, renewals, placing holds and internet access via library computers.
Library patrons are responsible for reporting a lost or stolen library card in a timely manner. Not reporting a card lost or stolen does not relieve the patron of responsibility for items checked out on their card. Once notification of a lost or stolen card is made to the Library, the card will be marked as "LOST" and no one can use the card without providing corroborating identification. Do not allow other people to use your library card.
Patrons are responsible for lost items and damage to materials checked out on their card.
If you live outside of Marshall, we can take your library card application. However, we may issue you a Dane County card OR send your application to your home library, rather than issuing you a Marshall card.
Allow Others to Pick Up Your Items
In order to ensure we follow the law and protect the confidentiality of our patrons, we need your written consent to allow others to pick up items for you, or to use your card.
If you would like to have someone else pick up your library materials, or use your card, please download, print, and sign this Authorization Form and return it to the library at your next visit.
